With two days, Hangzhou can keep one strong theme beyond the lake, while Wuzhen receives a connected walking route and a proper meal. The result feels like a short regional journey rather than two entrance gates joined by road time.
Which place should come first
The order depends on hotel availability, traffic patterns, onward travel and whether late-afternoon atmosphere in Wuzhen matters. There is no universal sequence. We choose the order after confirming your Shanghai hotel, dates and the next morning’s needs.
Travelers returning for an early international flight need a conservative second day. Those continuing toward Hangzhou or another city may finish outside Shanghai instead of driving back only to reverse direction.

Pack a small overnight bag when the main luggage can remain securely at the Shanghai hotel. This shortens check-in and makes vehicle space more comfortable. If you are changing hotels permanently, send the full luggage count before vehicle assignment.
